British F4: Oulton Park, Rd.4, 9/10 June
Tricky weekend but with the great work from my team, we’ll come back stronger!
We struggled with set up and pace from FP2 at this challenging and narrow track. Only qualified P8 for race 1 and P9 for race 3.
Race 1 – P6
I got to a pretty good start and made up one place on the first lap. Although we were still trying to find more pace I managed another overtake, that would put me on pole for race 2.
Race 2 – WIN
Again with a great start, and despite still not reaching the pace from the guys behind me, 20 minutes of serious defensive driving saw me first at the checkered flag.
“It’s nice to be back on top,” said Simmons. “I was under a lot of pressure from Doohan and Jewiss and was struggling with the rear of the car, but I managed to bring it home. It’s so hot today so you’re always mindful of looking after the car when you can and that was an additional factor in the race. Hopefully we’ve made a step forward with the car in terms of pace since qualifying and we can perform well in the final race of the weekend.”
Race 3 -P8
Good start! I made up one position, the car had a better pace and on lap 7, when I was going for sixth, the other driver didn’t give me enough room and ended back on ninth to finish the race eighth.Photos
