Gearing up for Spa!
Legendary Spa-Francorchamps next up for CDR’s British F3 team, where front-runner Ayrton Simmons aims to repeat 2019 win.
The Chris Dittmann Racing’s BRDC British F3 driver Ayrton, heads to the epic Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium this weekend (23-25 July), for the series’ traditional trip across the English Channel, where he is the only driver to have won at the circuit in a BRDC British F3 car. As well as being the only driver on the grid to have won a British F3 race at Spa, Ayrton is the only driver to have raced the car at the circuit too, having competed with the team in 2018 and then in 2019, when he won and claimed an additional podium.
Team Principal Dittmann commented: “This is always one of our favourite events of the season, and having gone well at Spa last time we raced there in 2019, we really hope we can repeat those performances again this weekend. The whole field is going there having not tested at the circuit during the winter, which is unusual. So it’s a level playing field and that should hopefully give us an advantage heading into the event.”
Ayrton: “Spa is my favourite circuit, so I’m really looking forward to it and looking forward to bouncing back up the standings. At Donington we had some potential but the lack of testing really caught up with us, with it being one of the main test tracks for most of the teams. It should play into our hands that there’s not a lot of testing available at Spa, the same as at Brands GP. We’ll be giving it our all, we’ve been working extremely hard in the week we’ve had off, and I can’t wait for that to pay off. I’m really looking forward to enjoying the weekend, we’re racing at one of the best race tracks in the world, so you have to enjoy it!”
The Spa weekend starts with three test sessions on Friday ahead of qualifying at 18.15. Saturday’s action includes two races before the final contest on Sunday morning. Live timing will be accessible via the British F3 website, and races will be live streamed too.
